CMC is committed to supporting trainees as they build their careers. CMC offers skill development workshops, webinars, networking opportunities and online tips on how HQPs can enhance their careers.
Currently CMC is offering the following workshops:
CCS Overview
This one day course instructed by CMC’s theme leaders will provide a condensed overview of the science, technical and policy aspects of carbon capture and storage (CCS), particularly as they relate to the CMC-NCE network. It will appeal to participants who want to expand their general awareness and understanding of CCS and the challenges involved in advancing CCS as a GHG mitigation alternative.
Priority will be given to HQP registrants.
Participants are requested to attend the full day and to look for ways to share their expertise to contribute to other participants’ awareness and understanding.
Participants’ food costs and accommodation at the course venue during the course are covered by CMC.

May 26-27, 2012: Organizational GHG Accounting (formerly GHG Quantifier) course
Many organizations are starting to think about how to manage their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. If you are working in industry and a company wants to be “carbon neutral”, how can you help them understand their carbon footprint? This course will enable you to intelligently address the issues necessary to assess this organization’s GHG emissions.
Following CMC’s annual conference, the GHG Management Institute is offering the 2-day 201 Basic GHG Inventory Accounting course. The regular price for this course is CDN$1100 but it is being offered to CMC HQPs at a reduced rate on May 26 & 27th only. The course is accredited for those who write a supplementary online exam.
Course Description:
Many organizations are starting to think about how to manage their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for a number of reasons: to minimize their impact on the planet, to prepare for regulation and address evolving disclosure requirements, to increase energy efficiency and/or to build their profile as an environmental leader.
Building an inventory of your sources and emissions is an essential first step to assessing risks, reducing emissions and tracking performance.
This training course will cover the basics of GHG accounting for organizations. The course materials are based on the WRI/WBCSD GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, while referring to the ISO 14064: Part 1 international standard for GHG inventories. A personal ISO 14064: Part 1 license is issued to each learner as part of this course.
The material taught in this course serves as the basis for almost all of the entity-level GHG reporting programs in the world, such as:
- Carbon Disclosure Project
- U.S. EPA Climate Leaders
- U.S. DOE/EIA 1605(b) program
- The Climate Registry
- The Chicago Climate Exchange
- Mexico GHG Program
- Philippine GHG Accounting & Reporting Program
The Organizational GHG Accounting course will be held at Carleton University. Space is limited.
HQPs (students & postdocs): CDN$250
Other Registrants: CDN$1100
